5.1 Galaxy Scalable Architecture
The Galaxy Platform has a common scalable architecture
with a unique ability to manage hundreds of controllers
and thousands of data points. It is reliable, using multiple
operator posts and server clustering to create highly
available systems. It offers fexible access control through
a hierarchical multi-user environment with different access
permissions for different types of staff such as operators,
security guards, engineers, and administrators. As a web
service it is easily integrated with other systems.
The services are structured around event management,
building on centralized real-time monitoring, management,
and logging of events. Galaxy uses alert-to-action
bindings to take action automatically when an alert is
raised. These actions may be controlled by an operator
or pre-defned and executed without any operator input.
It has facilities for creating any type of chart that may be
required, with support for a wide range of chart types,
including dynamically updated charts. It also creates
reports automatically, or on request, using any data that
can be viewed and edited. Users can edit reports online,
print and export them in a range of formats.
There is an audit trail for monitoring mission-critical data.
A tracker can be created for the relevant data which has
an unlimited number of user-defned states, indicated by
color highlighting. Any device-related or system actions
can be scheduled to be executed at any pre-defned
period. Devices and resources being managed can be
grouped together and results viewed and actions taken
for all the elements of the group simultaneously.
The system provides a full range of asset management
features. Any information required can be associated with
any piece of equipment. The event history for all assets is
stored and available in aggregated reports. Confguration
may easily be copied between devices, even ones that
use different frmware versions.
The application is browser independent and the frst
application of its kind to deliver a range of specialized
services through a single browser window.
Pacifc Controls’ Galaxy platform opens the door to a
future in which device networking technology and systems
integration together enable control over virtually any
system in the world from a single point. Galaxy creates a
bridge that can move data from almost any source to an
IP network so that end users in any location can access a
single unifed platform with a direct connection to real-time
data, Web-based data, and the corporate MIS.
